Seawolves Earn Pair Of One-Run Victories To Sweep CSUEB

ROHNERT PARK -- Trailing 3-0 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and with just a runner on second base, the Sonoma State softball team rallied for four runs on a two-RBI triple by Alison Strycula and a two-RBI walkoff double by Jordan White in the first of two victories for the Seawolves on Saturday over visiting Cal State East Bay (6-8, 3-5 CCAA) at the Seawolf Softball Field in Rohnert Park.

Sonoma (8-6, 5-3 CCAA) earned a 1-0 victory in the series finale behind a stellar pitching effort by Brielle Vidmar and the go-ahead RBI single by Strycula in the fifth.

Sonoma State will host Cal State Monterey Bay for a CCAA doubleheader on Tuesday, beginning at 1:00 pm.

GAME 1:  Sonoma State 4, Cal State East Bay 3

They say the 21st out is the hardest one to get, and for Cal State East Bay pitcher Sierra Clark in game one, it held true.  After keeping the Sonoma State offense in check through the first six innings, Clark gave up a lead off double by Leanna Georges, but then got a strikeout and a flyout to come within one out from giving the Pioneers the shutout win.  However, pinch-hitter Carlie Daniel walked before Strycula delivered her two-run triple to give the Seawolves some life.

WIth Strycula as the tying run at third base and Emma Ryan at first after getting hit with the first pitch following Strycula's three-bagger, White blasted a 1-0 pitch to the wall in right center field, allowing Strycula and Ryan to score for the thrilling walkoff 4-3 victory.

The win capped a perfect 3 for 3 day for Georges, while Strycula was 2 for 4 with two triples.  Amanda Llerena got the start for Sonoma and worked the first five innings, allowing a run to score in the first and two unearned runs to score in the fourth, accounting for the 3-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.  Vidmar came on in relief to start the sixth and was perfect, retiring all six batters she faced, striking out two of them in earning the pitching victory.

GAME 2:  Sonoma State 1, Cal State East Bay 0

In game two, Vidmar continued to shut down the Cal State East Bay hitters, giving up just three hits and three walks, striking out one in her complete-game shutout victory as the freshman moved to 3-0 on the year.

All Vidmar needed was one run and she got it in the bottom of the fifth on a Strycula single up the middle that scored Lindsey Calcany Blair from second base.  It was the only mistake that CSUEB's Tatiana Beilstein (1-4) would make the entire game, as she gave up six hits and three walks while striking out two Seawolves in game two.
