AZUSA, Calif. -- After holding a 2-1 lead after doubles play, the Sonoma State men's tennis team lost all six singles matches to suffer a 7-2 loss to No. 21 BYU-Hawaii on Saturday in Azusa. The Seawolves fall to 1-11 this season.
Sonoma got an 8-6 win from the pairing of
Blaine Mengert and
Logan Liddell at the top of the lineup in doubles to get the match started, but then BYU-Hawaii dispatched
Daniel Holz and
Kevin To at No. 3, 8-6, to knot the match at 1-1.
Sullivan Roche and
Christian Francisco then knocked off their opponents at No. 2, 8-5, to give the Seawolves a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
However, the nationally-ranked Seasiders dominated singles play with straight-set wins to cruise to the 7-2 win.
Sonoma State will next head to Davis on Sunday to compete in the Golden State Invitational at 1:00 pm.
