AZUSA, Calif. -- After taking a 2-1 lead into singles play, the Sonoma State women's tennis team saw its perfect season come to an end, dropping five of its six singles matches to lose 7-2 to 13th-ranked Azusa Pacific on Monday afternoon at the Cougar Tennis Center in Azusa.  The Seawolves, ranked 26th in the nation and sixth in the West Region, fell to 9-1 this season.  The Cougars, the third-ranked team in the region, improved to 7-4.

Azusa Pacific rolled to its first point of the day with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles before the pairing of Amanda Zuidema and Hillary Fazekas outlasted their opponents, 9-7, at No. 2 to even the match at 1-1.  Then, Jensyn Warren and Jordyn Kearney kept their perfect dual match-record alive in a back-and-forth thriller, dispatching Natalie Johnson and Lisa Schneider 9-8 (8-6) at No. 1 to give the Seawolves the upper hand, 2-1, going into singles play.

However, the Cougars rallied for five straight singles wins to clinch the match.  Zuidema scored the only singles win for the Seawolves, coming from behind to win 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 at No. 4 as Sonoma settled for the 6-3 loss.

The defeat snaps SSU's 11-game regular season win streak, dating back to last season.

Sonoma State will remain in southern California for one more match (Tuesday at No. 31 Point Loma) before returning home on Thursday for matches against Notre Dame de Namur and the University of Idaho.
