ROHNERT PARK -- The Sonoma State women's tennis team suffered its first shutout loss of the season, 9-0, at the hands of No. 2 BYU-Hawaii on Tuesday afternoon at the SSU Tennis Courts. The 26th-ranked Seawolves fell to 10-4 on the year as the Seasiders remained undefeated at 9-0 and still has yet to allow a point in 2016, outscoring their opponents 78-0 thus far.
In doubles play, the pairing of
Kaitlyn Haithcock and
Katherine Long gave BYU-Hawaii's Jade Griffin and Kanela Adamson a scare at No. 3 doubles, but the BYUH duo rallied for a 9-7 win to secure the sweep in doubles play for the visiting Seasiders.
In singles,
Jordyn Kearney gave everything she had in her contest against Karen Liu, the No. 9-ranked player in the West Region, but Liu stood her ground, outlasting Kearney for a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2.
Sonoma State will play the fourth game of its eight-game homestand on Friday when it hosts Westmont at the SSU Tennis Courts at 1:00 pm.
