ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- In the middle of their busiest home stretch of the season, the 24th-ranked Sonoma State women's tennis team picked up a 9-0 win over visiting Hawaii-Hilo on Saturday afternoon. The Seawolves breezed in doubles before turning to singles and sweeping their way through the ladder there, as well.
The Seawolves, who moved up two spots in this week's ITA national poll, improve to 12-4 on the season.
Katherine Long and
Karlee Budge led the way in doubles, cruising to an 8-0 win at the No. 3 spot. Wins also came from the teams of
Jensyn Warren/
Jordyn Kearney (No. 1) and
Amanda Zuidema/
Hillary Fazekas (No. 2).
The Seawolves' regular at No. 1, Warren, took singles off, allowing the rest of the lineup to star.
Jordyn Kearney improved her record to 4-2 this season in the top spot with her 6-2, 6-4 win. Kaitlin Haithcock, earned her first win of the season outside her normal No. 3 position, trouncing her opponent 6-1, 6-2 at the second court.
Budge was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at three, Fazekas won 6-2, 6-2 at four, and
Julie Rea went to 9-1 in singles play this year with her win at No. 5. Long, capped off the shutout with a quick 6-2, 6-1 win at the six spot.
Sonoma State will now look forward to a clash with #22 UC San Diego at 11:00 am on Sunday. Sonoma is now five matches in to a stretch that will see them play eight matches in a row at home.
