ROHNERT PARK -- The 24th-ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team forced third-ranked Western Washington into a scoreless draw Thursday evening at the Seawolf Soccer Field to open the 2016 regular season campaign.
The Seawolves were outshot 15-10 in the match, including a 13-7 margin after halftime, but SSU goalkeeper
Kristen Spear came up big on all four shots on goal by WWU, two of which occured during the 20 minutes of overtime. Her counterpart, Western Washington's Ashley Homer, also made four saves in the draw.
Sonoma State returns to action on Saturday when it plays host to Central Washington at 1:00 pm.
