Seawolves Stifle Chico State 3-0

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The Sonoma State Seawolves just keep on rolling. With their 3-0 win over Chico State on Sunday, SSU Women's Soccer has risen to 10-1-0 and 4-1-0 in conference play and has won their last five games in a row.

"For me, today's win was truly a team effort and a commitment from our players to do the little things well," said head coach Emiria Salzmann Dunn. "It was also a good response to our last game where we allowed two goals late; we are growing in maturity about how to handle the moments when we are under enormous pressure. Especially considering how talented that Chico side is."

Chico, who entered the match 2-2-0 in CCAA play, was stymied by a strong Seawolf defense for 90 minutes. Kristen Spear was only forced to make three saves en route to her seventh shutout of the season.

The defense coupled with ample Seawolf offense, which scored twice in the first half, before Bella Amyx put the game away in the 61st minute on an impressive bouncing-volley combination.

Both first-half goals came on converted corner kicks, one of which saw Sophomore, Sarah Lindborg, log her first of the season.

Cecilia Sifuientes' goal opened the game for Sonoma State, when her leaping nod bounced Sara Van Wagoner's service far post to make the score 1-0.

Lindborg's goal came in the 39th minute as Kristal Luna served a ball into the box from the corner. Lindborg tracked the ball in as she crashed back-post, scorching it past the keeper for the 2-0 lead.

With the win, the Seawolves hit the road to take on Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, before meeting Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday. Friday's kickoff is slated for 3pm PT.
