ROHNERT PARK -- Due to the continuing threat of wildfires, the tragic loss of life, homes and property in and around Sonoma County this past week, the Sonoma State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has postponed the Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner originally scheduled for later this month (October 28th). It has not yet been determined when the event will be rescheduled.
"Our department administrative team and the University administration have been evaluating the status of the Athletic Hall of Fame event the past few days, and the events of this past week are in our hearts and minds," said SSU Director of Athletics
Bill Fusco. "Our focus right now is to re-open the University soon and provide as much support to our campus community and the Sonoma County community as possible."
"It will take some time to determine when the dinner will be re-scheduled," added Fusco. "One thing is for certain, as a department, we still want to honor everybody that was supposed to be inducted on October 28th and have all of the inductees in attendance when the event is re-scheduled."
It was announced last month that Stacy Ball, Karen Beckner, Eric Cunningham, Steven Pratt, Carolyn Wellman, and the 1972-73 & 1973-74 Men's Basketball teams will be honored for their athletic excellence and contributions to the history of Sonoma State University Athletics. Additionally, long time campus police officer and SSU Women's Soccer All-American Judy Mefferd (Vonheeder) will be presented with the Dr. G. Edward Rudloff Distinguished Student-Athlete Alumni Award.
