Career Night for Burroughs Lifts Seawolves Over Otters

SEASIDE, Calif.Madison Burroughs scored 27 points to help Sonoma State to win over Cal State Monterey Bay in the Kelp Bed 58-56. This win lifts the Seawolves to a 11-12 overall and 7-9 conference record. The Otters are lowered to 6-18 overall and 3-14 in the CCAA.

Burroughs set a new personal career high and now shares the record for most points scored in a game since 2007-08 season with her teammate, Carly Gill.  Burroughs was 12 for 17 in the field and lead her team in steals with four.

Molly Donovan scored 11 points three for six from the field, five for six at the charity stripe, and pulled down eight rebounds. Jessica Mitz lead the team in rebounds with nine and assists with four and even blocked a shot.

The Seawolves scored 26 points from inside the paint, almost double their opponents. They only took 11 shots from beyond the arch, but their opponent shot 23.
Sonoma came out hot in the first quarter scoring 16 points by attacking the paint and a trey from McKaiela Tyler helped as well. In the second quarter, Sonoma was held to only nine points and the Otters seemed to catch a stride and held a two-point lead going into halftime.

In the second half of the game Sonoma shot 40 percent from the field and were 11-13 at the line. Burroughs went off, making 19 points in her 19 minutes on the court.
At 8:25 on the clock in the third quarter, CSUMB had an eight point lead and by the end Sonoma had a one point lead.

The Otters weren't backing down. In the fourth quarter, Burroughs scored five times in just over three minutes, but during that time CSUMB tied the score at 46 all and at three and a half minutes on the clock, the teams traded the lead four times until 16 seconds when Burroughs made a field goal and Taylor Todd a free-throw in bonus to get the final lead.

The Seawolves will play Cal State LA Friday, February 17 at 5:30pm in the Wolves' Den.
