ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Sonoma State opened their season with a satisfying 4-0 non-conference victory over San Francisco State at Seawolf Diamond. The Gators fall even to a 2-2 record and the Seawolves start the season 1-0.
The five Seawolf pitchers featured today, shut out their Gator opponents.
Haydon Turpin earned winning pitcher.
The Seawolves began their season offense with a bang. In the first inning the Seawolves scored three of their four runs.
Bryce Nagata had a single RBI, scoring
Daniel Caresio for run one. Next up,
Grant St. Martin sacrifice flied out to right and Nagata scored run two. Then,
Matthew Richards steps up and homers out to right field to put Sonoma up 3-0 in the first inning.
The next, and last, run of the game was in the third inning. Richards struck out swinging as St. Martin went to steal second. When the catcher threw to get St. Martin out, Nagata stole home for an unearned run. In fact, Nagata had three stolen bases and was 2 for 4 in the game, St. Martin and
Rayson Romero had one each.
Sonoma State heads to Oakland tomorrow, February 14, for a night game against Academy of Art University starting at 6:00pm
