LOS ANGELES -- The Sonoma State women's tennis team wrapped up a four-day, three-match road trip to Southern California with a convincing 8-1 victory over Concordia-Irvine Wednesday at the CSULA Tennis Complex in Los Angeles. The 23rd-ranked Seawolves improved to 8-6 this season while the 31st-ranked Eagles fell to 7-6.
The doubles duo of
Amanda Zuidema and
Jenna DeTurk got Sonoma off on a quick start, shutting out their opponent at No. 3 doubles before
Jensyn Warren/
Jordyn Kearney (8-2) and
Katherine Long/
Hillary Fazekas (8-6) took care of their opponents at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, to take an early 3-0 lead into singles play.
The Seawolves then won five of the six singles matches -- four of which were in straight sets -- to secure the 8-1 victory. It took
Jenna DeTurk a third-set 10-point tiebreaker, but she outlasted her foe at No. 4 singles with scores of 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 12-10.
Sonoma State will take a 10-day break from competition before taking on Holy Names in Oakland on March 25th.
