HAYWARD Calif. - Coming off their first loss of the season, Sonoma State bounced back to improve to 6-1-0 and 1-1-0 in conference play with a 2-0 win over Cal State East Bay. The win marks the Seawolves' ninth-consecutive victory over the Pioneers.
The Seawolves took control of the match in the early going when Alexis Espitia scored third goal of the season. Espitia controlled a ball passed across the field by Riley West and slotted home the first goal in the 10th minute.
The score remained 1-0 through the 86th minute until Paige Martinsen received a cross from Sarah Lindborg opening a scoring opportunity. Martinsen rifled a shot past East Bay keeper Ina Gonzalez, doubling up the lead and locking up the win in the final minutes of play.
Seawolves keeper Kristen Spear notched her fourth shutout of the season in the win.
SSU will travel to Arcata on Wednesday to take on the Humboldt State Jacks, with kickoff slated for 12pm PT.
