Santos Scores Two, Seawolves Drop Non-Conference Match

ARCATA, Calif. – Sonoma State traveled north for a non-conference match with Humboldt State University on Saturday, and despite a pair of goals from Sebastian Santos, the visitors were beaten 4-2 at College Creek Field.

Humboldt put the pressure on early, taking 14 shots in the first half, forcing the game's first lead at the 22-minute mark. One of those shots came off the boot of Danny Allred whose attempt met the crossbar before coming back in position for Gus Baxter to head home the game's first goal.

Eight minutes later, Sonoma State's top scorer evened up the match with a goal of his own.

On a pass by Brian Field, Santos took control of the ball for a short breakaway before sending it past the charging keeper Robert Quintero to make the score 1-1.

The Jacks retook the lead in the 37th minute on a ball that rebounded off a Seawolf defender before Dalton Rice doubled the HSU lead before the break by heading in a corner.

Humboldt State found another goal in the second half to take their largest lead of the match (4-1) in the 71st minute, but Santos' awareness allowed the sophomore forward to later sink his eighth goal of the season. A shot in the 87th minute rebounded off a Humboldt State defender before Santos one-touched the ball into the netting, far post.

With the non-conference loss, the Seawolves fall to 2-10-3, while remaining 0-8-2 in conference play. Sonoma State returns home this week for their final two games of the season, taking on Cal State East Bay on Thursday at 3 p.m. before wrapping up 2018 with a 2 p.m. kickoff Saturday vs Cal State Monterey Bay.
