Seawolves Break 18-Year Drought Against UCSD

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- On Monday afternoon the #26 Seawolves broke an 18-year losing streak against #43 UC San Diego with a 5-4 victory. The Seawolves improve to 13-3 while the Tritons fall to 8-3.

The Seawolves trailed early falling behind after the doubles matches. Nate Oppenheim/Sean Alves defeated Eric Tseng/Justin Zhang in the doubles one match to get the Seawolves their only doubles victory (8-6).

Trailing 2-1 going into the singles matches, the Seawolves would need four singles match victories to win the match. Igor Pissarenko got the first single victory for the Seawolves in the singles five match against Richard Han (6-1, 6-4). Sean Alves defeated Justin Zhang (6-4, 6-3) in the singles two match to give the Seawolves their second singles victory of the day and to take the lead for the first time of the day. Alec Wong defeated Neil Tengbumroong in the singles six match (7-5, 7-6 (6-0)) to pull the Seawolves within one point of victory. Nate Oppenheim would clinch the match and end the 18 year drought with his singles one victory over Eric Tseng (6-7 (5-0), 6-3, 6-2).

The Seawolves welcome NCAA Division I opponent Portland State on Thursday. First serve will be served at 10:00 am.
