SURPRISE, Ariz. -- On Wednesday, the Sonoma State University Women's tennis team played the opening round of the 2018 Pacific West Conference Championship. Sonoma State defeated the 12-seed Holy Names Hawks 5-0.
Prior to the start of Tournament, the Seawolves were named the fifth seed in the twelve team championship tournament. The top four seeds received a first-round bye.
The Seawolves won all three doubles matches. Jensyn Warren/Carolyn Brooner defeated Jahan Bayramova/Eliza McKean in the doubles one match (8-3). Jenna DeTurk/Amanda Zuidema defeated Amandine Clouvel in the doubles two match (8-2). In the final doubles matchup Katherine Long/Hannah Highsmith defeated Dominique Ernst/Macy Barajas.
The Seawolves needed to win two matches to clinch the match. #3 Jensyn Warren pulled the score within one with her defeat over Jahan Bayramova in the singles one match (6-0, 6-1). Jenna DeTurk clinched the match with a win over Eilis Work in the singles five match (6-2, 6-0). As for the other four singles matches, they were unfinished.
The Seawolves will face #4Â seed Point Loma on Day 2 of the tournament. First serve will be at 9:00 am.
