Seawolves Split Series In Turlock

Turlock, Calif- In their final day in their series against Stanislaus State the Seawolves split the final two games of the series, dropping the first game 6-5 and winning the second game 7-5.

Game 1
Brigid Ruiz got the start in Game 1 for the Seawolves. Trouble ensued for Brigid starting in the second inning. After hitting the leadoff batter she gave up a home run to the next batter putting the Seawolves in a 2-0 deficit. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Alexus Martinez reached first base on a fielder's choice but due to an error by the Seawolves' third baseman, the runner from third came in to score giving the Warriors a 3-0 lead.
However, the Seawolves would respond in the top of the third. Lindsey Calcany Blair started off the inning with a double to left center and managed to get to third after Alee Balanon grounded to third base. Julie Davis was walked and stole second, putting runners at second and third. Both runners managed to score on a fielding error by the shortstop cutting the Warriors lead to one.
In the bottom of the third inning the Warriors would add to their 3-2 lead with a Desiree Gonzalez double to right that would score two pushing the Warrior lead to 5-2. In the fifth, Maya Yoshiura would hit a sacrifice fly pushing the Warrior lead to 6-2.
The Seawolves attempted to make a comeback in the top of the seventh. Down to their last out and with the bases loaded Cameron Kirtlan hit a triple to score three Seawolves and bring them within one. Flores ended the game with a popup stranding Cameron Kirtlan at third.
Ruiz's day ended after three innings as she gave five runs (four earned) and six hits, falling to 10-6 on the year. Gabby Dupree would replace her in the fourth and would go 0.2 innings and walk three before being  relieved by Teresa Danenberg. Danenberg would finish the game for the Seawolves. For the Warriors Anyssa Garvin pitched four innings and gave up two runs (zero earned) and improves to 3-1 on the year.

Game 2
In the second game of the doubleheader Brielle Vidmar got the start for the Seawolves. Sonoma State jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with RBI hits from Alee Balaon, Sarah Langely, and Megan Ambriz in the first.
In the third the Warriors responded with two sac flys from Maya Yoshiura and Alexus Martinez, each driving in a run. The hosts would then take the lead after a single by Alanah Laupua-Vanisi, giving Stanislaus a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Alee Balanon singled scoring Malory Masajlo to tie the game at 4-4. However Maya Yoshiura would help the Warriors get a two run lead with her RBI single.
For the second straight game the Seawolves headed into the seventh inning trailing. Malory Masajlo started the inning with a single followed by a Calcany Blair groundout that would allow Malory Masajlo to advance to second. Davis would follow Calcany Blair with a groundout of her own advancing Malory Masajlo to third. Down to their final out, Cameron Kirtlan worked a walk for the Seawolves before stealing second. With runners on second and third Alee Balanon connected for a clutch three-run homer to center putting the Seawolves back on top, 7-5. Balanon's fifth home run of the year proved the difference as Vidmar would come out in the bottom of the seventh, shut down the Warriors, and earn the complete game win. The Seawolf starter improves to 11-5 while Stanislaus' Kristin Borst took the loss, falling to 4-4.

Following the doubleheader, the Seawolves move to 25-14 and 17-9 in the CCAA. The Seawolves currently sit in second place in CCAA standings, just behind conference leader Chico State, who the Seawolves start a four game series with on Friday. First pitch will be at 1PM.
