BILLINGS, Mont. — Sonoma State wrapped up their non-conference schedule Sunday afternoon with a 1-1 draw in double overtime against Montana State Billings, improving to 2-1-1 on the season.
"That was a great soccer game. Both teams had moments where they dominated. We had a few quality chances where we got in behind them, but their keeper came up huge," said head coach Marcus Ziemer after the game.
Both teams were able to secure a goal in the opening 16 minutes but remained deadlocked through the remainder of the game.
"A draw was probably a fair result but I think we had the better clear-cut chances. It's tough being on the road but we stuck with the game at least got a tie."
Just inside the 10-minute mark, Kyle Owings shot a cross to the left post where Sebastian Santos ran on and converted for his third goal this season.
Just six minutes later the Yellowjackets got on the board. Guillaume Kremer drilled a shot from the right side, evening the score at one.
Despite a collective 13 shots through the remaining three periods, the teams remained equal through two overtime periods, ending the match in a draw.
"I have a lot of respect for the way they play. They are a very well coached team," added Ziemer. "We have to bounce back quickly because we begin CCAA play on Wednesday vs Humboldt, but luckily we are at home."
The Seawolves kick off conference play against the Jacks this Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Seawolf Soccer Field.
