Seawolves Shutout Humboldt to Kick Off Conference Play

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Sonoma State kicked off conference play Wednesday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout of Humboldt State, extending their undefeated season start to five games.

Alexis Espitia and Sarah Lindborg led the Seawolves on the attack scoring a goal in each half, and securing three points to start the season.

Espitia broke the scoreless tie in the 40th minute on a corner kick by Molly Murphy. After ricocheting off a Jacks defender, the ball squibbed away to the far side of the box where Espitia came racing in. The sophomore striker dropped into a slide where she was able to poke the ball past a pair of defenders and into the back of the net for the opening goal.

The Seawolves headed to the half up by one and continued to play aggressively through the final 45 minutes.

Taking eleven shots on goal, Sonoma State was finally able to sink another one into the back of the net in the closing minutes, as Sarah Lindborg locked up the win.

On a set-piece serve by Madison Watts from the far side corner, Lindborg was able to jump up and head the ball into the top netting of the goal to put her team up 2-0.

With the win, the Seawolves move to 3-0-2 on the season and improve to 1-0-0 in conference play.

Sonoma State returns to action on Friday when they host San Francisco State at 1:30 p.m. from Seawolf Soccer Field.
