Field's First-Half Goal Earns Road Point at San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Sonoma State earned a point on the road Sunday afternoon as the Seawolves went 110 minutes for an eventual 1-1 draw against Cal State San Marcos at The Cage.

The Seawolves got on the board at the end of the first half as Brian Field was able to loop a shot up and over Cougars' keeper Justin Tesar for a one-hop goal. The conversion marks Field's fourth of the year, ranking second on the Seawolves' squad.

Sonoma State held the lead for a majority of the second half but the Cougars eventually equalized in the 76th minute off a set piece at the corner. Brian Morrison send the ball into the box where it found David Martin, who eventually rifled a shot to the far right corner.

With 10 seconds remaining in overtime, San Marcos nearly found the golden goal, but SSU goalkeeper Arturo Ornelas made his sixth save of the game, denying the hosts a walk-off win.

With the draw, the Seawolves earn their second point in CCAA play and move to 0-4-2 (2-5-3 overall) on the season. Sonoma State returns home to face Cal Poly Pomona for a 12:30 p.m. match Friday in Rohnert Park.
