Seawolves Suffer Late Deficit

Pomona, Calif. – Seawolves halftime 31-28 lead over one of the region's best, No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona fell short in the final quarter, resulting in a 58-50 final. 
 
The evening was led by a double-double performance by Ugochi Anudokem.
 
With just under a minute remaining in the first quarter, Jessica Solis hit a three-point shot to gain a three-point lead 19-16. At the buzzer, the Broncos made a jumper to come within a point of the Seawolves.
 
Serena Santos extended Sonoma States lead to 27-20 with a jumper in the paint in the second with less than three minutes on the clock. Forty ticks remaining in the half, Anudokem notched a layup in the paint to boost the Seawolves lead over the Broncos to 31-24. Cal Poly's Rebecca Islas downed two free throws when time ran out. 
 
The Seawolves held its lead for most of the third, with two lead changes.  Lira Ndifon jumper in the paint and Jessica Solis' two free-throws helped Sonoma State to a four-point gap over the Broncos.
 
Cal Poly Pomona held the Seawolves to four points in the final quarter, two in the paint from Anudokem, before closing out the game with its largest lead of the game 58-50.
 
Seawolves outperformed the Broncos in second-chance points 12-to-11, bench points 13-to-5, points in the paint 34-to-30, and fast break points 9-to-8.
 
NEXT: The Seawolves remain on the road to play Cal State San Bernardino Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
