San Bernardino, Calif. –Led by
Zane Sheckherd's 18-point performance and
Ugochi Anudokems seventh double-double (19-points and 16 rebounds) of the season. The Seawolves improve to 7-9 overall and 5-8 in the CCAA after wrapping up its Southern California trip with a 79-71 win over Cal State San Bernardino.
For the second time, this season Sonoma State beat the Coyotes by eight points. Both
Kylie Kiech and Sheckherd put up 18-point s for the Seawolves. Keich, with a season-high 12 free throws going 12-for-14 from the line.
How It Happened:Sonoma State held its lead the entire first half gaining a nine-point lead halfway through the second quarter.
With a layup in the paint by
Jessica Solis, the Seawolves extended its lead by eight, 16-8 at the five-minute mark. The Coyotes capped a 14-7 run with a layup with 0:05 left in the half before coming within a point of the Seawolves 37-36.
With a three-pointer from Sheckherd in the opening minute followed by
Serena Santos scoring on the next possession, the Seawolves jumped out to an early lead. Cal State San Bernardino never got closer than four points in the third period.
In the second half Sonoma State led by as many as 12 points twice, first when Kiech downed a free throw at the 5:35 mark (48-36) and at 2:41 when a free throw by Solis (52-40) — holding a 7-point lead (55-48) into the final quarter.
Six of Kiechs 12 free throws came within less than two minutes on the clock; the Seawolves maintained its lead taking the win 79-71.
