Seawolves Sweep Stanislaus

Rohnert Park, Ca-  Sonoma State earned a huge bounce back win at home on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over the Stanislaus State.  SSU trailed by 10 points in the first set before rallying for a fantastic comeback win.  the Seawolves were led by the serving of Ashleigh Phelps who earned 7 straight service points in the set to turn the tide. The win was much needed for SSU after losing 3-1 to Chico State on Saturday at home.

"Excellent performance from our servers this afternoon," Coach Bear Grassl explained. "We put pressure on our opponent  and made the most out of good chances to score."

Defensively, "Tate Battistini handled 29 serve reception opportunities and kept us in system all match," said Grassl.  Coach Grassl also singled out the bounce back performance from Kiana Richardson who finished the night with a team leading 14 kills.  Bailey Pallestini had 12 kills, while Libero, Ashleigh Phelps came up with 12 digs and 3 services aces.

Stanislaus came into the match in first place in the North Division of the CCAA.  The Warriors were led by Jordan Wilson with 12 kills.

Sonoma State needs at least one more win to solidify a CCAA playoff berth.  The Seawolves host Cal State East Bay in a make up game on Friday night at 7PM in the Wolves Den.
