Chico, Ca- The SSU Women's Soccer team took another step toward the CCAA Tilte with a 3-1 win over Chico on the road Sunday afternoon.
The match was tied 1-1 at the half as
Sarah Lindborg filed her 3rd goal of the season on a PK in the 26th minute. Just after that Chico countered with goal from Camille Lidster who scored with the left foot from 20 yards out.
For the next 49 minutes the defenses kept the score tied. Finally, the Seawolves would take the lead on a corner kick by
Madison Watts which deflected off the body of
Krissy Keller and in to make it 2-1.
4 minutes later the Seawolves put the game away as
Raina Wristen scored from 18 yards out.
Chico was held to just 3 shots on goal as the SSU defense was terrific all afternoon.
"The win today was a real testament to the mental strength of the team," said Head Coach Emiria Salzman Dunn after the match. "Chico is very talented and always gives us a battle. I give credit to the players for digging deep and finding ways to win games."
It was a trying week for SSU with campus closed all week due to the Kincaid Fire. Despite being thrown off their normal routine SSU remains in first place in the CCAA.
Next up the Seawolves host Cal Poly Pomona on Wednesday at Seawolves Soccer Stadium at 3:00PM.
