Rohnert Park, CA - Sonoma State, playing in front of a Senior Day crowd on Saturday afternoon, defeated Cal State San Bernadino 1-nil to finish the CCAA schedule un-defeated.
The game got off to an emotional start as injured senior
Sarah Lindborg was given a ceremonial start and subbed out after the kick off. Lindborg was greeted with a big hug from Head Coach Emiria Salzman Dunn as she left the field.
The game was a defensive battle for the entire first half, both teams had decent scoring chances but came up empty for the for first 45 minutes. SSU fired 8 shots in the first half but San Bernadino keeper Carly Luna made 4 saves to keep the Seawolves off the board.
That changed in the 47th minute as
Drew Swanson centered a perfect ball toward the box on a corner kick. She found
Krissy Keller right in front, who hammered it with a perfect header into the right corner for the game's only goal.
From there Goal keeper
Ashley Morton completed her conference leading 6th shutout of the season. Morton made 3 saves on the day with some help from defenders , Keller,
Riley West,
Kamyrn Haiber and
Sam Layman who made it tough on the Coyotes forwards all afternoon.
"I cant express how proud I am of the team and all they have been able to accomplish." Said Coach Salzman Dunn after wrapping up the conference championship undefeated in CCAA play. "They have been through so much and have always been able to handle everything that has come their way. they are a great source of joy to me and my staff."
Now it's on to the CCAA playoffs, The team will head to San Diego after receiving a first round bye.
