San Marcos, Ca- The Sonoma State Women's Basketball team broke open a close game with a 9-0 third quarter scoring run to defeat Cal State San Marcos 55-49 on the road. The loss for the Cougars was the first of the year. San Marcos came in ranked in the top 20 nationally.

Rich Shayewitz and recorded a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
The Seawolves fell behind by 8 in the 3rd quarter before going on the run and closed out the 3rd with a 4 point point lead.
Kim Savio scored 7 points in the quarter and had an amazing night shooting a perfect 5 for 5 from the field, 1 for 1 on threes and 2 for 2 from the line. Savio finshed with 13 points and 9 rebounds.
Sophie Northern also came up big scoring 12 points for SSU.
The Sonoma State bench players made a huge impact outscoring the Cougars 14-2 on the night.
SSU is now 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the CCAA. San Marcos falls to 7-1 on the season.
The Road trip continues for the Seawolves as they take on Dominguez Hills on Saturday Night.
