Carson, Calif. – Seawolves are now 8-12 overall and 6-10 in the CCAA after dropping today's doubleheader to Cal State Dominguez Hills, game one 14-12 and game two 11-5. The CCAA series concludes Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Cal State Dominguez Hills 14, Sonoma State 12
The Seawolves bats came alive early, with three singles in the top of the second for a 5-0 lead over the Toros.
Dan Deely sparked Sonoma States offense with an RBI single to left field;
Matt Hill singled to left center to score both Deely and
Bryce Vitt. Followed by a two-run RBI single by
Zach Guardino, scoring Hill, and
Jake Hernandez.
The Toros pieced together a single and sacrifice fly to right field in the third to get within three runs of the Seawolves.
Sonoma State strung together a six-hit, five-run fourth inning to gain a 10-2. Hill with a two-run double to right field scored
John Abate and
Jake Hernandez.
Patrick Tolbert singled through the left side to score Hill, then scored on a single by Vitt. Deely capped off the fourth with a single to left center to score
James Harwell.
An 11-run sixth inning by the Toros blew the Seawolves 10-2 lead.
Sonoma State attempted a comeback in the eighth, a sacrifice fly by Deely and an RBI ground out by Lyndall brought the Seawolves within a run of the Toros 13-12.
Dominguez Hills added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to claim game one of the doubleheader 14-12.
Cal State Dominguez Hills 11, Sonoma State 5
The Toros gained an early 6-0 lead in the first three innings.
Sonoma State added four runs of their own in the fourth to get within two runs of Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Kory Brown scored off a sacrifice fly to center field by Jake Pridy and Deely crossed the plate when Downing doubled down the left field line. Then
Drew Downing scored off
Anthony Clymas single to right center, Clyma socred when Hill singled through the right side.
Cal State Dominguez Hills added five more runs to their lead (11-4) over the Seawolves.
Down six runs in the final innings, Sonoma State added run when Pridy hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Guardino.
