Rohnert Park, Calif. – Sonoma State is now 10-13 overall and 8-11 in the CCAA after splitting its series opener with Cal Poly Pomona, with a 6-5 11-innning win in game one and a 9-4 loss in game two.
Game One: Sonoma State 6, Cal Poly Pomona 5
Three scoreless innings before anyone crossed the plate, starting with three runs in the fourth by the Broncos for a 3-0 lead over the Seawolves, Cal Poly Pomona extened its lead to 4-0 in the 6
th.
Following seven scoreless innings for the Seawolves, Sonoma State strung four hits together to cut the Broncos lead in half 4-2.
John Abate scored off a single up the middle by
Matt Hill, then Hill was brought in by
Kory Brown who doubled down the left field line.
Cal Poly Pomona added another run in the ninth with a double to left field.
Down 5-2 in the ninth
Dan Deely scored off a ground out to second by Abate. Pridy then stepped up with a game tying double up the middle to score Hill and
Anthony Clyma.
Both teams failed to cross the plate in the 10
thinning forcing an 11
th. Medina pinch hit for Hill, knocking his first pitch over left field for the game winning walkoff homer.
Game Two: Cal Poly Pomona 9, Sonoma State 4
Cal Poly Pomona took hold of a 7-0 lead in the first four and a half innings holding the Seawolves to a single hit.
Sonoma State scored its first run of the game off a passed ball in the fifth. The Seawolves took advantage of an error by the Broncos third bases to add two more runs to the board 7-3.
The Broncos added a pair of runs in the sixth with a hit and a passed ball 9-3.
Medina crossed the plate in the seventh adding a run for the Seawolves off a ground out to short by Deely, 9-4 final.
