Rohnert Park, Calif. – Sonoma State opened its series with Cal State East Bay Thursday at the Seawolf Diamond. The Seawolves came out on top 5-3 over the Pioneers and are now 21-18 overall and 19-15 in the CCAA.
The series continues Friday for a doubleheader; first pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
With two down in the second, the Seawolves took hold of an early 1-0 lead when
Dan Deely singled through the left side to score
Jack Pridy.
Following a scoreless third inning, there was a lead change when the Pioneers strung together a pair of runs off three hits.
Again, with two outs Deely stepped up, with a solo shot over left field for his second homer of the season to tie the game 2-2.
The Seawolves regained it lead (4-2) in the sixth when Pridy and
Patrick Tolbert scored off a fielder's choice hit by Deely.
Cal State East Bay cut its deficit to 4-3 in the top of the eighth, scoring off a ground out to second. In the bottom of the inning, the Seawolves added an insurance run when
Kory Brown crossed the plate off a sac fly by Pridy.
Deely brought in four of the Seawolves five runs, and Brown went 2-for-4 at the plate.
