Rohnert Park, Ca- The Seawolves started fast and ended strong as they shut out Simon Fraser 3-0 on the home pitch, Friday afternoon.
Just over 6 minutes in,
Alyssa Silva scored off a nice feed from
Molly Murphy and Sonoma State had the lead. It didn't take long to score again as
Sarah Lindborg found the net just 3 minutes later to make it 2-0. Coach Emiria Salzmann Dunn was pleased with the team's early success, "I was really happy with our energy today and the way we started the game. Getting the early goals was a big boost."
The Sonoma State defense was tremendous holding visiting Simon Fraser to just one shot on goal in the entire first half, as the score remained 2-Nil at the intermission .
The Seawolves would add a third goal in the 79th minute,
Maddy Watts with a nce entry pass headed home by
Krissy Keller.
From there the defense continued to stymie the Clan, although Simon Fraser seemed determined to score.
"Simon Fraser had some good chances at the end of the game so being able to hold on to the shutout was very positive." said coach Salzmann Dunn after the 3-0 victory.
Sonoma State has a road game Tuesday at Fresno Pacific and then begins CCAA play vs Humboldt, next Friday at 4:00PM at home.
