Seawolves Win Conference Opener Over the Jacks

On Friday, September 27th, the Seawolves took on the Humboldt State Lumberjacks and won 4-2. The match began with some early chances and pressure from Sonoma, but Humboldt was able to score 2 goals off of some early mistakes by the Seawolves. In turn, the Seawolves responded quickly with a goal by Sebastian Santos assisted on an early crossed ball from Eduardo Rodriguez. Minutes later, Sophomore, Ulysses Vega scored on a great run through the middle of the field and a powerful shot from the top of the box to make it 2-2 at the half.

Sonoma State kept the pressure high to start the second half and drew a Penalty Kick early in the half. The Penalty Kick was followed in by Brian Field to score the third goal for the Seawolves making it 3-2. Brian Field scored again later in the half on a nice combination play to make it 4-2.

Coach Marcus Ziemer recognized his outside backs Evan Roehrig and Salvador Gomez-Avila for their offensive threat and stability in the back. The Seawolves' young talent was key in their win as well. "Everybody played well, but Eduardo Rodriguez, Kyle Owings, and Ulysses Vega had their best games of the season," said coach Ziemer.

The Seawolves earned a huge win to start off their conference games and hope to extend their winning streak this Sunday afternoon when they take on San Francisco State.
