Women's Soccer Earns Big Regional Win in OT

Turlock, CA - FreshmanChiara Rigatuso found the net in the 101st minute to propel the Seawolves to an overtime victory over Concordia of Oregon 3-2 on Thursday afternoon in Turlock.
Sonoma State Head Coach Emiria Salzmann Dunn was excited by her teams effort, "This is a massive win for us in terms of developing confidence to compete with more traditional regional powers"

Sonoma State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Alexis Espitia score back-to-back goals in the first half.  The first in the 4th minute from a pass by Krissy Keller and then 12 minutes later with an assist from Molly Murphy.  The Seawolves held that lead until the 38th minute

At that point Concordia turned the match around with goals by Aaliyah Valladares and Chloe Smith.  The Seawolves were unable to score before the intermission and so the teams were tied up at 2-2 at the half.

Neither team could find the net in the second half and so on to overtime they went.

After a scoreless first overtime Rigatuso scored the game winner for Sonoma State, unassisted to give the Seawolves their first win of the season and notch a huge regional win.  Chiara stepped in front of a pass after the kickoff by Concordia, stole the ball, raced up the field going past two defenders and finished beautifully for the Golden Goal.

Salzman Dunn was impressed by the Freshman's ability in a pressure situation, "Chiara showed poise and calmness, running full speed with the game on the line, but she paused for a moment and finished the play."

Up next, the Seawolves play Southern Oregon, again in Turlock Saturday at 2:30 PM.
