Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Seawolves pull to within one game of first place

SSU Women Come from Behind to Beat East Bay

Hayward, Ca - Sonoma State rallied in the 4th quarter for a dramatic  road win over Cal State East Bay 57-54 on Saturday afternoon.  With the win SSU is now just one game back of the conference leaders.

The Seawolves trailed by ten in the first quarter but got on track in the second, led by the defense, to pull to within one at the half. Sonoma State was still behind heading in to the 4th, 50-46 but finished strong only giving up 4 points on defense in the final 10 minutes to win by 3.

Sonoma State was clutch from the free throw line throughout the game shooting 86%, including 7 of 8 down the stretch.

Ugochi Anudokem led the way with yet another double-double.  She finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds.  Kylie Kiech added 11 points for the Seawolves and was 6 of 6 from the free throw line.

Head Coach Rich Shayewitz was proud of his team's effort and strong defense, "It was a great CCAA battle, the toughest most gritty team was gong to win that game," He said.  "Ra'Shanae Johnson and Zane Sheckherd gave us great energy off the bench and picked us up."

Next week Sonoma State will play at home after 3 straight road games.

Thursday night Cal State San Marcos will visit the Wolves Den and Saturday UC San Diego will be in town.  Those two teams are both 9-3 and tied for first place in the CCAA.  SSU is 8-4 and has won four straight games.
