SB: Seawolves Take Care of AAU in DH

Rohnert Park, CA - On Tuesday afternoon, February 25th, the Seawolves took the field for a non-conference doubleheader, coming off their early season buy, against the Knights of Academy of Art. The Knights had been struggling as of late coming into the contest just 1-12 on the season but were looking for a credible non-conference win against the former CCAA tournament champions.

In game #1, senior pitcher Teresa Danenberg got the ball and threw 5 scoreless innings striking out 4 and giving up only 2 hits in her outing. Freshman pitcher Nicole Sarra followed and took the circle where she would finish the game with 2 scoreless innings as well. Sarra only seemed to get stronger as she threw 2 hitless innings and struck out 2 Knights in the process. She would record her first save of the season. Doing the scoring for the Seawolves was infielder Alyssa Caballero who hit an RBI sac fly scoring Julie Davis. Freshman Giana Hays would tack on to the lead in the 5th with another sac fly RBI which would plate sophomore infielder Cassidy RomanoCassidy Romano and amber Orchard were also 2-2 from the dish in game #1 with 4 of the Seawolves 5 hits in the game.

Game #2 saw the senior transfer Nalani Scates take the mound as she looked for her second win of the season. Scates gave up just one run in 3 innings of work and threw 3 strikeouts in the process for the Seawolves. However, another freshman would take the mound for SSU to finish out the game. Raquel Chaidez had 4 innings of work giving up just one run on 3 hits. Chaidez would close out the game with 4 quality innings and secure her first win of the season while Scates's ERA drops to 3.16 on the season after a solid 3 innings.

The Seawolves finally exploded offensively scoring 8 runs in the game. Junior Cameron Kirtlan would lead the Seawolves with 2 hits and 3 RBI's including a blast of a solo homerun to deep right field in the third to give Sonoma a 4-1 lead. Senior Nicole Renner would get in on the action in the bottom half of the 6th with a no doubter to deep right center field to make it 6-3. The Seawolves would tack on two more in the 6th and then Chaidez would shut the door and complete her 4 innings of work to secure the Seawolf victory.

Sonoma improves to 7-8 on the season and will hit the road this weekend to face off against Humboldt State in a 4-game series. The Seawolves seem to be trending in the right direction after coming off back-to-back series splits with SF State and UC San Diego and will look to continue their momentum in Arcata.
