San Marcos, Ca- Sonoma State won both games on Saturday, taking the series at San Marcos by winning 3 of 4 on the road. SSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first game of the day led by
Jake Hernandez,who had an RBI single in the 4th and an RBI double in the 6th.
The Seawolves blew this one open late with a 2 run homerun by
Trevor Mallett in the 8th and another 2 run shot by
Dante Peretti in the 9th.
Demian White went 5.1 to earn the win in the 12-4 final.
In the series finale, San Marcos took the early lead 2-0 but Sonoma State scored 6 in the 3rd, the big blow a bases loaded triple by catcher
Bryce Vitt.
The Cougars came back to make it 6-5 heading to the 7th. SSU added an insurance run on a ground ball by
Ben Sanderson which resulted in an error scoring Josh Medina.
San Marcos would score a quick run off eventual winning pitcher Josh Medina (2-0) and closer
Andrew Trahan would enter with the game on the line. Trahan induced a double play ground ball and a line out to end the game and notch his 3rd save of the season.
It was a great weekend for Sonoma State with Coach
John Goelz winning his 1,100th game and improving the season record to 6-11 (5-7 CCAA).
The Seawolves will return home for a 4 game set with Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday thru Sunday.
