Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Kiech joins the 1,000 point club as "They Pack the Den"

WBB: SSU Wins in Overtime over SF State

Rohnert Park, CA -  In a rollercoaster ride of a game Sonoma State re-grouped in OT and pulled off a huge home win, 77-66 over San Francisco State.  In the annual "Pack the Den Event" the Seawolves needed a win to stay in the CCAA playoff picture and got it, but it wasn't easy.

After getting off to an 8-0 lead to start the game, Sonoma State seemed to be in control and eventually stretched the lead to 14 in the first quarter.

It was a historic first half for Senior Kylie Kiech who came in needing 9 points to reach 1,000 for her career.  Kiech would hit her first three 3 point attempts and get that out of the way early on.  She becomes just the 6th SSU woman to reach the 1,000 point mark in school history.

But then the momentum changed and the scrappy Gators made a run of their own.  In fact they would close the half with a 13-0 run to lead by one at the break, 33-32.

The game would feature 6 lead changes and would go back and forth until the end.  SF State would re-take the lead by two with time running out.

After a SSU time out Zane Sheckherd scored a layup with 3 seconds to go and send the game to overtime.

In the overtime period SF State ran out of gas.  The Gators only suited up 7 players and finally the Seawolves were able to pull away.  Ugochi Anudokem scored, then Kiech would make a three pointer (her 5th of the night), followed by Sophie Northern hitting back-to-back shots.  Finally SSU had some breathing room and would close it out with an 11 point victory.

Kiech led all SSU scorers with 22 points next was Northern with 20.  Anudokem would get yet another double-double scoring 10 points and hauling in 16 rebounds.

With the win, Sonoma State improves its playoff chances, as the Seawoves move to 10-7 in conference play, good enough for 5th place in the wild CCAA race.

Key home games are on the horizon as SSU hosts 6th place Stanislaus State and 7th place Humboldt State next week.
