Rohnert Park, CA - The Seawolves, winners of 8 straight, hosted Cal State Monterey Bay in a 4-game set this weekend kicking off the first two games this afternoon at the Seawolf Softball Field. The Seawolves went to their transfer
Nalani Scates who threw a gem of a game pitching 6 scoreless innings along with 6 K's and only giving up 1 hit. The Otters matched Sonoma with their starter throwing the full 7 innings for Monterey which kept the game at 0-0 through 6.
Coach
Jennifer Bridges went to right handed freshman
Raquel Chaidez to take over and give the Seawolves a chance to walk it off in the bottom half of the 7th. Chaidez threw the top half of the 7th and gave up no hits while striking out one to bring the game to the bottom of the 7th. With 1 out, coach Bridges went to her bench where
Courtney Jack was called upon to pinch hit and she delivered. A pinch hit single through the second baseman put her on with 1 out in the inning.
Briana Avalos would pinch run for Jack to represent the games winning run. After a walk and a fielders choice, freshman
Reagan Hunt came to the dish with runners on first and third and 2 outs. Hunt would hit a slow roller to the second baseman and she would try to get the force out at second but a tough flip saw the ball tip off the shortstops glove causing everyone to be safe and Avalos would score the winning run! Sonoma would win the game on just three hits.
Senior pitcher Teri Danenberg would take the circle in game 2 where she threw a 4 hit 7-inning shutout for the Seawolves leading Sonoma to their 15th win on the season! Teri would secure her team leading 6th win on the year along with 5 strikeouts in the contest. Sonoma would start the game off with a bang as
Jordyn Martinez hit a 3-run shot against the wind to dead left field. The Seawolves would ride the 3-0 lead into the 6th where
Amber Orchard would tack on a solo shot of her won to right field to extend the lead to 4-0.
Alee Balanon also went 2-3 in the game with 2 singles and a run scored and Martinez led the game with 3 RBI's.
