ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On September 18th, the Seawolves volleyball team finished out their southern California road trip with a conference matchup against Cal State LA. SSU was fresh off of a 5-set win the night prior against Cal State Dominguez Hills to open up conference play and they would look to sweep the weekend against LA.
Both teams wasted no time as SSU and LA went back and forth throughout the first set. The Seawolves took a 12-9 lead after kills from
Jenn Trephan and
Kiana Richardson. Despite the lead, the Golden Eagles would go on to outscore the Seawolves 16-10 to take the first set 25-21. The second set would remain tight early on with kills from
Leilani Hallman and
Amy Trephan. After a run by LA, Grassl and his group would go on a 5-2 scoring run to bring the set back within two. Unfortunately, LA would run away with the second set and take a 2-0 lead.
The third set would tell a similar story as Cal State LA would win the match 3 sets to 0 after a 25-17 third set victory. Outside hitter
Kiana Richardson led SSU with 7 kills in the match while Jenn Tephan,
Riley Beyma, and
Dylan Copeland all combined for 17 digs.
Megan Trottier,
Brynna Slayton, and
Brooklyn Jackson all recorded an ace in the match as well.
The Seawolves fall to 4-6 overall as they split the opening weekend of conference play. Head coach
Bear Grassl and his team will return to the Wolves' Den for more home conference action on September 24th and 25th where they will face off against Chico State and Stanislaus State.
