VB: Seawolves Earn Third Straight Sweep with Victory over Stanislaus State

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State volleyball continued their sweep streak on Saturday, recording their third in a row with a straight set win over Stanislaus State.  The Seawolves improved to 11-5 overall and 4-4 in CCAA play and have won nine sets in a row over the last three matches.

SSU took control of the first set early on, breaking an 8-8 tie with an 8-1 run to lead 16-9.  Kaden Young registered two aces during the spurt with Brooklyn Jackson adding a pair of kills.  With the Seawolves leading 18-13 they would win the final seven points of the set to take the opener 25-13.  Jessie Hobbs got going during the last run, recording two kills and a block.  Jen Trephan and Jaden Krist both added a kill to close out the first.

The second set was one of the closest of the year featuring 17 ties and five lead changes.  The Seawolves erased an early deficit with a three-point run to even the score at 10-10.  From there neither team led by more than two points the rest of the way.  With the score tied at 16-16 the next 13 points were traded one at a time.  The score would be tied at 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 before Sonoma State got a pair of kills from Brynna Slayton to take the set 26-24.  Krist was the star of the set for SSU, finishing with seven kills including several clutch ones.

Leading 2-0 the Seawolves put the match away early, using an 11-2 run to turn a 7-7 tie into a 19-9 advantage.  The set would end several points later with Sonoma State taking it 25-12.

Sonoma State held a 39-31 kill advantage while also recording eight aces.  The Seawolves serve return was excellent on the day, not allowing a single ace from the Warriors.  Krist led all players with 11 kills while Kiana Richardson and Trephan added eight apiece.  Trephan also tacked on 22 assists, 11 digs and three blocks.  Kaden Young chipped in 15 digs and three aces.

The Seawolves are back in action next week for a home-and-home with Humboldt State on Thursday and Saturday.  Sonoma State will host the first game, a Thursday evening match set to start at 5:00 pm.
