ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State softball team's Senior Day celebration had extra meaning this season with a pair of senior pitchers turning in dominating performances against Cal State East Bay.
Camille Rodriguez opened the day with a complete game, 1-hit shutout before Jesse Dupuis closed the series with a no-hitter. The wins gave the Seawolves their fourth straight CCAA sweep and upped their conference winning streak to 16.
Rodriguez, winner of eight straight decisions opened the day with another fantastic performance in the circle. After allowing a first inning double she completely closed the door on the Pioneers, closing out the final six innings without allowing a hit. She walked just one batter in the game and retired the final 11 to pick up her 14
th win of the season.
Offensively the Seawolves got on the board in the bottom of the third, manufacturing a run after a lead-off double by
Reagan Hunt.
Anna Zoia-Buescher was then hit by a pitch and
Rylee Nishimoto bunted them both up a base with a sacrifice. Jordan Martinez drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly and SSU led 1-0.
Giana Hays added an insurance run in the sixth inning with a solo shot to left field, her fifth of the season.
Rodriguez lowered her ERA to 1.50 on the season and has now won nine straight decisions to move to 14-4 overall.
Dupuis continued her torrid run in the series finale, taking a 22.2 scoreless inning streak into the contest. She was also fresh off a 1-hitter against Cal State East Bay the day before. By the end of this game she would extend that to 29.2 innings and has allowed just seven hits total during that span. Dupuis was perfect through the first two innings before a batter reached on an error in the third. She would walk a batter in each of the fourth and fifth before retiring the last seven hitters to complete the no-hitter.
The no-no was the first for a Sonoma State pitcher since Brielle Vidma threw a five-inning no-hitter in 2017. It was the first seven-inning no-hitter since Amanda Llerena did it against Cal State San Bernardino in 2015
The Seawolves gave Dupuis all the support she would need in the first three inning, scoring one in the first and four more in the third. Zoia-Buescher continued her hot hitting, leading off with a single and eventually made her way to third on a single by Martinez. Hays followed with a sacrifice fly to score the first run of the game. Zoia-Buescher was back at it in the third inning, opening the frame with a double and scoring on a double off the wall by Martinez. Hays then doubled herself, moving Martinez to third and both later scored on a double by
Courtney Jack. SSU finished the inning with four hits, all doubles and four runs.
Buescher finished the game with three hits, upper her series total to eight and moving her batting average on the season to .400. Jack added two hits and two RBIs while Martinez also picked up a pair of knocks.
The Seawolves moved to 34-14 on the season and have won 20 of their last 21 games. They have an overall winning streak of 12 and are 19-1 in their last 20 CCAA contests. Sonoma State currently sits in third place in the conference and close the season next with a four-game series against second place Chico State.
