ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State volleyball team continued on their torrid start to the season with a sweep of Academy of Art for their 5
th straight victory. The Seawolves improved to 6-1 on the season and have swept their opponent in three of their first seven matches.
SSU controlled the match throughout, holding a 45-31 kill advantage for the night and topped at least 12 in each set. The Seawolves have outkilled their opponent in all seven matches this season and have held the opposition under 32 kills in each.
The first set was back-and-forth until the 17-17 mark when Sonoma State broke it open with four straight points.
Jaden Krist picked up a kill and
Jen Trephan added a kill and an ace to make it 21-17. After a pair of points from the Urban Knights, SSU closed the door with four straight points to end the set at 25-19.
The two teams played a similar set in the second, swapping leads throughout and sitting in a stalemate at 18-18. Once again the Seawolves took over down the stretch, this time using a 7-1 run to take a two set advantage.
Emily Hernandez recorded two kills during the run while
Jessie Hobbs added a kill and an ace.
The Seawolves made their run a little earlier in the third set, using a 6-1 run to take a 13-12 lead up to 19-13. Sonoma State would eventually put the match away on a kill by Krist to finish it off at 25-21.
Krist picked up seven of her match high 12 kills in the third set. Trephan added ten kills, 19 assists and three aces while
Kaden Young finished with ten digs to lead all players.
Sonoma State will look to make it a 4-0 weekend tomorrow when they take on Dominican at 7:30 pm to close out the Seawolf Classic.
