After dropping the first set, Sonoma State volleyball never took their foot off the gas, handling CSU Dominguez Hills in four sets and remaining perfect at home. SSU improved to 9-5 overall on the season and 4-3 in CCAA play.
The first set saw the Toros jump out to a lead before the Seawolves tried to mount a comeback. After kills from
Brooklyn Jackson and
Leilani Hallman the Seawolves found themselves down 22-23. However, CSUDH put away the comeback and ended the set 25-23.
The second set started quickly for Sonoma State jumping out to a 6-3 lead and forcing a Dominguez Hills timeout. The Seawolves carried their momentum in a big way after five aces in a row from
Jaden Krist put them in front 16-9. Sonoma State held off the Toros the rest of the way 25-19 and a big spike by Jen Trephen sent the Seawolves into the third set tied 1-1.
Sonoma State carried their energy into the third set, maintaining a steady lead on CSUDH 17-11. The Seawolves finished off the set 25-14, racking up 15 kills and 4 aces. A balanced attack on offense led Sonoma into the fourth set.
It didn't take long for the Seawolves to jump up big on Dominguez Hills 11-4. SSU would not let up the rest of the way and closed the door on the Toros in the final set 25-15. Outdoing their previous mark with 19 kills and a .471 hitting percentage.
Sonoma State controlled the match in every way, leading 63-34 in kills, 59-32 in assists and 13-3 in service aces. Krist had a superb game putting up 18 kills and finishing with 8 aces, one off the program record of 9.
Jen Trephan added 8 kills, 32 assists and 16 digs while
Kaili Spooner tacked on a career high 13 kills.
Kiana Richardson contributed 9 and
Emily Hernandez finished with 8 of her own.
