VB: Seawolves Sweep Stanislaus State for 4th Straight Win

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State volleyball team kept their winning streak alive on Thursday evening with a sweep of Stanislaus State 25-22, 25-17 and 25-23.  The Seawolves improved to 10-5 in CCAA play and now sit at 15-7 overall.

SSU led for most of the night, trailing just once in the entire match.  They opened the first set strong with Jaden Krist notching the first three Sonoma State points on kills and later adding an ace.  The Seawolves led 9-4 and despite the Warriors pulling within one several times kept the advantage through the end of the set.  After Stanislaus State closed the deficit to one at 23-22, Krist added another kill and the Seawolves closed the set with an attacking error by Stanislaus State.

Sonoma State kept the momentum going in the second set, scoring the first three points and then using eight unanswered to lead 12-2.  Brynna Slayton started the run with an ace and kept her serve going six more times as four Seawolves recorded kills.  SSU racked up 18 kills in the set and hit over .500 on their way to a 2-0 lead.

Stanislaus State took their only lead of the contest with the first point of the third before Sonoma State responded with four in a row.  The Seawolves later added runs of four and three to lead by as many as five.  Stanislaus responded with a rally of their own to cut the SSU lead down to one at 23-22.  Kiana Richardson then ended the match with back-to-back kills.

The Seawolves held a 49-27 kill advantage for the match, recording at least 14 kills in each set.  Krist and Richardson led the way with 12 kills apiece while Brooklyn Jackson added 10 of her own.  Jen Trephan tacked on 6 kills, 17 assists and 14 digs with Krist also picking up four aces.

Sonoma State closes out their home schedule on Saturday with a 1:00 pm match against Chico State.  Saturday will also be Senior Day with the Seawolves honoring their seven seniors with a ceremony before the match.
