SB: Seawolves Topple Saint Martin’s in Walk-Off Fashion

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Anna Zoia-Buescher delivered a clutch two-out walk-off bases loaded single to lift the Sonoma State softball to a 3-2 victory over Saint Martin's.  The Seawolves scored two in the bottom of the seventh to complete the come-from-behind win and improve to 2-1 on the season.  The second game of the day was halted due to rain with SSU leading Holy Names 4-0 after one inning.

The Seawolves got on the board first in the opening frame with Zoia-Buescher leading off with a double into the left field gap.  She moved to third and then scored on a wild pitcher for the early 1-0 lead.  Nichole Sarra also started strong in the circle for Sonoma State, retiring ten in a row after a game opening hit-by-pitch.

Saint Martin's got to Sarra in the fourth, tying the game with a pair of doubles before taking the lead after an error.  The Seawolves did not threaten in the next three innings while Sarra kept the Saints off the board to keep it at 2-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh.

Jordyn Martinez led off the final inning with a single and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Skylar LinnaneCourtney Jack followed with a walk and pinch hitter Lauren Mirtoni also drew a free pass to load the bases.  After the Saints got the second out, Reagan Hunt worked her way to walk to bring in the tying run.  Zoia-Buescher then stepped in a ripped a line drive down the left field line to score pinch runner Charlie Johnson for the game-winning run.

Sarra picked up the win for the Seawolves with fantastic performance on the rubber.  She allowed just three hits, one earned run and struck out seven. Zoia-Buescher recorded three of the four Sonoma State hits including a double.

The second game saw the Seawolves score four runs in the bottom of the first against Holy Names before the rain started to come down.  The game was halted and will be resumed at a later date starting in the top of the second inning.
