BSB: Seawolves Earn First 4-Game Win Streak of Season Behind Dominant Pitching, Sweep Stanislaus State

TURLOCK, CALIF. - On Sunday, April 30th, the Sonoma State baseball team would record their first four game win streak of the season, defeating Stanislaus State 4-1 in a dominant bullpen game. The Seawolves would go through three pitchers but senior right hander Jake Dent would finish the game with 4.2 innings of work, earning his second win of the season.

2ND INNING:

After an inning ending double play in the first, sophomore catcher Chris Ortiz would continue his solid weekend with a two out homer to right center, good for his team leading 6th home run of the season. Ortiz would finish his weekend series with four hits and three RBI's as he raises his batting average to .240 on the season.

7TH INNING:

In the 7th, the Callison brothers would take over the inning with a pair of hits to extend SSU's lead to 3-1. Shane Callison would lead things off with a single to right and then two batters later, sophomore Cooper Callison would shoot a single to left center, plating Shane from second. Shane Callison recorded a hit in two games of the weekend series including an RBI double in Saturday's doubleheader to complete a productive weekend.

FINAL SSU 4-1 STAN:

Senior right hander Nick Roth would make his first appearance since April 1st after returning from injury. Roth would complete two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and retiring five of the seven batters he faced including an inning ending double play in the 1st.

Roth would turn things over to former University of San Francisco teammate Michael Benz. Benz would complete the third and fourth inning not allowing a single hit and just one base runner. He would start the 5th and record a fly out but allow a walk and an RBI double to put the Warriors on the board.

Benz would depart for hard throwing right hander Jake Dent who has made appearances this season out of the bullpen and as a starter. Dent would retire the next two batters to get out of the jam and maintain SSU's 2-1 lead. Dent would go on to finish the game and retire 9 of the final 10 batters he faced in the last three innings of play. His 4.2 innings of relief would allow him to pick up his second win and go down as one of his best outings of the season. Just two walks and one hit would keep the Warriors hitters in check as the Seawolves tacked on another run in the 9th, securing a 4-1 win and series sweep.

Timely hitting all weekend long and quality pitching allowed head coach John Goelz and his group to record their first four game win streak of the season and sweep Stanislaus State in a must-win scenario.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Seawolves improve to 19-21 overall and 13-19 in CCAA play as they extend their win streak to four games and sweep Stanislaus State.
