Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Seawolves Take Down Cougars in Four Sets Inside the Wolves Den

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- After a short stint on the road, Sonoma State Women's Volleyball was able to get back in the win column thanks to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Cougars of Cal State San Marcos. The win now moves Sonoma State to a 6-5 overall record for the 2024 season.

Overall, the win highlighted a solid team effort with 12 different players getting onto the court and contributing across the four sets. One of the individual highlights of the evening had to be the breakout performance of middle blocker Theo Hayse. Hayse had spent much of the season in the rotation but earned the starting nod against the Cougars. What followed was a career high 14 kills on a stellar .325 hitting percentage. Hayse has continued to earn more playing time and was crucial in securing the win by playing steady and relatively mistake free volleyball.

The Seawolves also received a huge boost from Jackie Winfield. Winfield posted 10 kills with an impressive .333 hitting percentage. She absolutely stuffed the statsheet with four service aces, three digs and a solo block. Winfield almost single handedly was able to help her team mount a huge comeback in the third set. While the Cougars did eventually win the frame of play, Winfield dominated with a block, five kills and an ace to keep the Seawolves in the fight and make her opponents work incredibly hard for the 25-23 set point.

Rounding out the team's leaders were some other familiar faces. Meadow Cooper once again managed a game high 21 digs. She has now reached double figures in digs on six different occasions. Jules Tan made multiple key serves throughout the match including three service aces and not a single service error. Lastly, the duo of Kaden Young and Emily Hernandez have continued to serve as mainstays in coach Grassl's rotation. The pair combined for 17 kills, six block assists and 11 digs.

SSU is back in action  on October 5th for another CCAA tilt against Cal Poly Pomona. The match has been scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.
