Seawolves Fall to Urban Knights in PacWest vs CCAA Battle

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- Sonoma State Women's Basketball hosted the Urban Knights from Academy of Art in a local showdown inside of the Wolves Den. While the Seawolves were unable to secure the victory, there were some bright performances from coach Abeyta's squad that should be great building blocks heading into Saturday's matchup against UC Merced.

Newcomer Alysa Lopez has begun to find her stride on offense. She has now scored in double figures in four of her five appearances and is up to a team leading 12 points per game. Lopez was dynamic in just 16 minutes of playing time as her ability to break down defenders off the dribble was on full display. Despite Academy of Art's size and length, Lopez got to the rim almost at will and converted with either hand to the tune of 5-6 shooting. She also pulled down three rebounds and swiped two steals for good measure.

Alongside Lopez, Madisyn Clark was able to add 13 points of her own to the boxscore totals. Clark was able to get some momentum going from deep after a slow start to her shooting splits this season. She drained two threes at a 40% clip which was a great sign for the Seawolves. She also grabbed three boards as well.

Another positive take away from the game came via the rebounding margins. While the Urban Knights entered the game with a decisive size advantage, the Seawolves competed on the boards relentlessly. They would win the rebounding battle 42-40 with Eryn Gardner having a huge game as a rebounder. She pulled down a game high 13 rebounds with five of them coming on the offensive end. She was instrumental in keeping possessions alive for the Seawolves and hunted down long rebounds and battled among the taller Academy of Art players.

Sonoma Women's Basketball is back in action on Saturday with another home game inside the Wolves Den against the visiting Bobcats of UC Merced. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM!
