Women’s Volleyball Picks Up First Home Victory Over the Toros

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.-After a battle against the defending national champions in their last game the Seawolves got back in the win column taking down the visiting Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills. Sonoma State posted decisive leads in almost all major statistical categories on their way to a victory in four sets.

Offensively a trio of upperclassmen led the way. Peyton McBride led all players with 13 kills across the four sets of play. Brooklyn Jackson was second on the team in kills with 11. She put together an outstanding overall performance including a team high 16 digs, three service aces and two block assists. Lastly, Jackie Winfield posted 10 kills thanks to a team high .231 hitting percentage.

Defensively, the libero duo of Meadow Cooper and Kya Payne each added 11 digs to their resume as they each took their turns to anchor the Seawolves defense. They also had 16 block assists with Emily Hernandez dominating at the net with six. Kaden Young was also effective in slowing the Torors with four block assists as well.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the day was Brynna Slayton's dominant start to the fourth set. Slayton, the programs all-time leader in service aces, put together a show with five service aces out of the first six points. The Toros had no answers for Slayton who took over the game clinching set.

Sonoma State was able to split their two home games of the year. They now prepare for a short stint on the road. The Seawolves are back on the court against Stanislaus State on September 27th in Turlock!
