Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Frye’s Early Goal Lifts Seawolves Over Westmont

The Sonoma State women's soccer team earned their second straight victory, toppling Westmont 1-0 on 4th minute goal by Ashley Frye.  The Seawolves extended their unbeaten streak to four games with another superb defensive performance.

Frye found the back of the net just 3 minutes and 43 seconds into the match to provide the game's lone score.  After a corner kick and a clear by Westmont, Olivia Wilson whipped the ball back into the box.  Frye who stayed even with the backline headed the ball from the middle of the box over the goalie's leaping arm and into the back of the box.  The goal was Frye's first of the season with Wilson notching her first assist.

Sonoma State dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the game. The Seawolves outshot their opponents by a commanding 21-6 margin, with 11 of those shots coming in the second half.  Sonoma State's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Ariana Beddoes, held firm throughout the match. Beddoes played all 90 minutes and made two crucial saves to preserve the shutout.  The cleansheet was the second of the season for Beddoes who has allowed just one goal in the last 300+ minutes of play.

The Seawolves' attack was led by Renee Ketner, Mia Solorio-Smith and Frye.  Ketner and Solorio-Smith each recorded four shots, with three and two on goal respectively, while Frye's two shots included the game-winning goal.

Sonoma State closes out their non-conference slate on Saturday with a home match against Cal State Humboldt.  Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm live stream and stats available on www.sonomaseawolves.com.
