ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Sonoma State put on a show at The Wolves' Den on Thursday night, rallying in the second half to secure a crucial 87-80 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay. The Seawolves were powered by career performances from key players, including a dominant outing from forward Jakob Milling who emerged as a dominant force inside the paint and outside the arc.
Milling delivered the best game of his Seawolf career, pouring in 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including three three-pointers. He was just as impactful on the glass, grabbing six rebounds and adding three assists to cap off his stellar night. Milling went blow for blow with the Otters offense never letting them pull away from the Seawolves. His work in the pick and pop with his guards did wonders in stretching the Otters defense where he punished them all night long by knocking down shots or putting the ball on the deck.
Donovan Sevilla provided a crucial two-way effort, scoring 12 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting while showcasing his defensive prowess with two steals. His defensive intensity helped slow down Monterey Bay's offensive attack, especially in the closing moments of the game. Sevilla, known for his defense, constantly put pressure on the ball and made multiple second efforts which led to deflections and chaos for the Otters.
Meanwhile, the Seawolves' point guard duo of Chris Holley and Nick Medeiros continued to shine. Holley paced the backcourt with 18 points, three triples, and four assists, while Medeiros contributed 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Medeiros' ability to get to the free-throw line, where he hit 9-of-10 attempts, played a pivotal role in sealing the win. The duo constantly made heads up plays keeping the Seawolves offense flowing in the second half.
After trailing by nine at halftime, Sonoma State erupted for 55 points in the second half, fueled by their aggressive defense and fast-break opportunities. The Seawolves now look to their final home game this Saturday with a showdown against Stanislaus State as they celebrate Senior Night!
