SEASIDE, Calif. – Sonoma State's offense came alive in the third inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome Cal State Monterey Bay in an 8-3 loss on Friday night at the Otter Sports Complex.
The Seawolves broke through in the third inning, scoring all three of their runs to briefly take the lead. Evan Merz continued his strong play, delivering a key RBI single to spark the rally. Merz is now up to 14 hits on the season and has recorded at least one hit in every game he has appeared in so far this year. Alongside Merz the pair of Vinny Lencioni and Joey Replogle also chipped in on the scoring front. The pair have been hot of late having combined for six RBIs last week against Cal State East Bay. They continued their scoring trend with both batters driving in a run thanks to sacrifice flies. Rounding out the Seawolves offense was Ben Saitz, Braden Sellz and Aryonis Harrison who all recorded a hit as well.
Sonoma is back on the field for three more games against the Otters with a double-header on deck for Saturday. After a strong third inning of offense, the Seawolves will look to build on that momentum into the rest of the series.
